Manychat Coupon Online Order In Store Single Use

If you use Manychat to distribute coupons while offering online ordering and in-store use, you probably want to make sure that your coupons can’t be used more than once.

Sometimes when offering coupons for both online and in-store use, it would be difficult to track if they used it in one of those environments and then restrict the usage in the other environment if they did.

Today I am going to teach you how to make sure that a coupon is only used once regardless if they use it online or your physical location.

Create A “Coupon Used” Tag

The first thing you need to do is to create a tag that counts as a conversion event. For example, if someone used a coupon, then they probably made a purchase with that coupon. So you can count that as a conversion event.

Place Your “Coupon Used” Tag

After you create your “Coupon Used” tag, you want to make sure it is placed correctly in the flow so that immediately after your customer uses the coupon, they are tagged with “Coupon Used.”

Tagging a customer after they use the coupon in a physical location

In my flow, when a customer uses a coupon in the restaurant, they first have to click on a button to use the coupon. To prevent cases where the customer clicked the Use button on accident, I put in another message after they click the “Use” button to double confirm their usage. This way, I don’t get any customers saying “I accidentally click it but can I still use it?” It eliminates people that take advantage of extremely forgiving service people.

After the customer clicks on the double confirmation, I connect that button to an action which tags them as “Coupon Used.”

One thing that I want to mention is if you have multiple coupons for use, I would come up with a naming convention for each coupon like Coupon 1, Coupon 2 and Coupon 3. That way, you can differentiate between which coupon the customer used by creating tags such as “Coupon 1 Used” “Coupon 2 Used” and “Coupon 3 Used.”

Tagging a customer after they use the coupon online

Remember the button I told you about where I let the customer click “Use Coupon Now” if they are using the coupon in a store?

Well I have another button just beneath it where it says “Order Online.” The Order Online button then opens up a new message that gives them instructions on how to apply the coupon to their order.

Pro tip: if you want to track online orders that came specifically from the button clicks, you can do that! You can install the Manychat Pixel on your website and install a tracking code on the Purchase confirmation page. If you have these two things placed on your website, then you can literally see the revenue that comes from your Manychat flows!

You can also get the tracking code to automatically place the “Coupon Used” tag after they purchase online your website.

Where To Check The Tag

So, if someone in your flow has the “Coupon Used” tag then they shouldn’t be able to use the coupon again. If they don’t have the “Coupon Used” tag then they should still be able to use the coupon.

One thing that is possible is if someone uses the coupon in the store, then they can easily go back to the coupon and try to use it online.

So the one thing you should do to prevent that is to check to see if they have the “Coupon Used” tag before they can continue to use the coupon.

After they click on “Use Coupon In Store,” you can follow that up with a Condition that checks to see if they have the “Coupon Used” tag. If they do, then you can connect that No condition to a different message that tells them they have already used the coupon.

If they don’t have the “Coupon Used” tag, then you can let them continue the flow as usual.

So that is how you make sure your customers can only use a coupon only once whether you offer it online, in-store or both.

Have you ever caught anyone using a coupon twice even though you didn’t plan for that to happen?
